Thank you for showing up and for showing your love for the Santa Ynez Valley Trail. Your voices were heard! The SBCAG Board voted 12-0 to move forward with $1.43 million in federal funding secured by Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.
This is a huge step toward better access for people walking, rolling, and biking across the Santa Ynez Valley. This trail will one day run nonstop from Buellton through Solvang, past Santa Ynez and the Chumash Casino Resort, all the way to Highway 154–an incredible way to connect communities, boost physical activity, and showcase all that Santa Barbara County has to offer.
This round of funding will be used for environmental studies, technical work, and concept designs. Construction on this first segment will break ground in 2028. At the meeting, our executive director urged SBCAG to create a community stakeholder group now, at the very beginning of this project, to work through issues including public and personal safety, ADA access, business and tourism impacts, e-bike use, and design elements such as shade structures to help address the impacts of global warming.
We’re here to make sure that people who walk, bike, roll, and use public transportation have the same freedom and liberty as everyone else in the community.” – MOVE Santa Barbara County testimony on SYVT to SBCAG’s Board of Directors
